FIFA officially confirmed yesterday that Indonesia will not host the U-20 World Cup, which will start on May 20th and will run until June 11th. The reason is that the governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, requested that Israel be vetoed because Indonesia diplomatically supports the Palestinian cause.
Without delay, the AFA presented a formal proposal to become a host. And it was approved! For the U-20 World Cup in Argentina, several potential stadiums would be considered, including the Monumental, of course, but also the impressive one in Santiago del Estero, San Juan, San Luis, Córdoba, Mendoza, and La Plata.
“Obviously, the Kempes is fully prepared to host the World Cup, as it was in 2001. But we haven't talked to anyone yet. We have to wait to find out which venue it will be," says the Córdoba Sports Agency.
“Córdoba's intention is to have the tournament played in Córdoba," adds the agency led by Pichi Campana.
At home, the national team has a chance
Argentina's U-20 team could not qualify for the World Cup because it was eliminated in the first round. However, if the country ends up being the host, it will participate as the organizer.
The qualified countries are: Iraq, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Japan, Africa, Senegal, Nigeria, Gambia, Tunisia, Europe, France, Italy, England, Israel, and Slovakia. From South America, Brazil, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Colombia will participate. Also in the game are the United States, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala; from Oceania, Fiji and New Zealand.
