The female perspective on the growth of soccer in Florida

(By Estela Rotmistrovsky in collaboration with Maurizio and Ortega) Latina residents share their vision on the rising popularity of the sport in the state. Soccer, a sport considered a global passion, has experienced a remarkable surge in Florida in recent years. The exponential growth of this discipline led Concacaf to propose, in a seminar held in 2014, the declaration of May 23 as the International Women's Soccer Day. Therefore, today, Estela Rotmistrovsky, a prominent Latina entrepreneur, marketing specialist, and a fervent soccer fan and player, provides us with a clear insight from the female perspective on how this strong phenomenon is impacting the Florida community.

Why is soccer growing holistically in the Sunshine State?

"It's exciting to see soccer gaining ground in Florida," say some Latina residents who have witnessed the increased interest in the sport in their community. "Previously, soccer did not have the same relevance as other sports like basketball or American football, but now we see more children and young people participating in local leagues and soccer clubs".

From this perspective, the key role that the Latina community has played in this growth is highlighted. "Soccer is part of our culture, and seeing more young Latinos involved in the sport is very positive," they affirm. "It's a way to keep our roots and traditions alive while integrating into American society."

  • The increasing popularity of soccer is also reflected in the number of events and tournaments held in Florida. "Now we have more opportunities to enjoy live soccer, whether watching local games or international events," it emphasizes. "This creates a vibrant and exciting atmosphere for soccer enthusiasts."

  • However, it is acknowledged that there are still challenges to overcome. "Although soccer is growing, there are still limitations in terms of facilities and resources for the development of the sport, especially in less privileged communities." "It is important that we continue to work to ensure that everyone has access to soccer and that talent is fostered in all communities."

  • The growth of practices in schools, colleges, and academies is noticeable and evident, and the distinction is that women, of all ages, are great lovers of practicing this sport throughout the state.

In Miami, Florida, and the USA in general, there is a marked optimism about the future of soccer. "With the continuous support of the community and the commitment of local authorities, a bright future for soccer in our state is seen." "It is a sport that brings people together, and it is exciting to see how it will continue to grow and thrive in the coming years."

  1. How is women's soccer growing in the Sunshine State? The IN Tips for the growth of soccer in Florida, in Miami, and throughout the USA:

  • The National Team, leagues, programs, the foundation of the development of Women's Soccer in the USA

Women's soccer in the United States has experienced significant growth in recent decades, becoming one of the leading countries in this sport globally. Both at the amateur and professional levels, interest and participation in women's soccer have increased considerably, thanks in part to the success of the national team, professional leagues, and the development of grassroots soccer programs across the country.

  • Indicators and observations of growth in Florida and Miami

In Florida, soccer is growing comprehensively, but women are taking center stage not only as fans but as players. Particularly in the vibrant city of Miami, women's soccer has experienced a significant surge in recent years. The creation of more opportunities for young players, the increased visibility of local leagues, and investment in sports infrastructure have contributed to the sustained growth of this sport in the region.

Women's soccer clubs in Miami have been working diligently to develop local talent, offer high-quality training programs, and promote community participation. Additionally, the presence of professional teams like Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer has helped increase interest in soccer, both male and female, in the city.

  • The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is the professional women's soccer league in the United States and features high-level teams, including the Orlando Pride in Florida.

For young players interested in pursuing a career in women's soccer, it is essential to dedicate themselves to constant training, seek opportunities to compete at increasingly higher levels, and maintain an attitude of perseverance and determination.
