Trump Welcomes Milei to the White House with Praise and Full Support (And Criticism of Fuerza Patria Figures)

(By Taylor-Molina and Maqueda from the U.S.) President Donald Trump welcomed his Argentine counterpart, Javier Milei, to the White House on Tuesday for his first official visit, opening with: “He’s a great leader.” The two administrations held a historic working lunch as part of the visit.

Never before has a U.S. administration—so central and influential on the global stage—shown such tangible support for Argentina, nor catalyzed such a wave of investment into the country. This is a stark fact that transcends ideological stripes; denying it would be counterproductive for the nation and a clear case of cognitive bias.

Trump called Javier Milei “a great leader,” and warned that if Milei does not prevail in the coming elections, his administration would not extend the same support to Argentina.

The Milei administration, he argued, has done enormous work to halt the freefall of a country whose microeconomy is still absorbing decades of mismanagement, corruption, and ideological excess. “For this reason, the United States cannot allow Argentina to once again inflict massive damage on the economy of the entire hemisphere.”

“We love the people of Argentina. We’re here to support you. You have a great leader,” Trump said as he shook Milei’s hand—days after Washington moved to extend a lifeline to the Argentine economy.

Trump also compared Axel Kicillof to New York’s socialist-leaning Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, adding: “Our support is contingent on who wins the election. If a communist—like in New York—wins, there will be no investments. You can’t build a great economy on communist philosophy.”

Reaffirming his full backing for Milei, Trump cautioned: “If he doesn’t win the election, I know who he’ll face—and he’s from the extreme left, with the very philosophy that led Argentina into this mess. If Milei loses, we will not be generous with Argentina.”

  • He further noted that a Milei victory this month would be “very important” and “something the world is watching.”

  • According to Trump, Milei “inherited a mess,” and the White House visit and U.S. support will help bolster his standing in the polls.

  • Trump said his political support stems from the belief that it’s vital “for a great philosophy to take hold in a great nation,” and that other Latin American countries should follow Argentina’s ultralibertarian path.

Highlights from President Trump’s remarks:

  • “These elections are approaching, and the whole world will be watching. [Milei] has done a great job; his popularity numbers are good, and after this they’ll be even higher.”

  • He signaled openness to quickly signing a free trade agreement with Argentina.

  • “If a socialist or a communist wins, you feel differently about making an investment,” he warned.

  • “If Milei doesn’t win, we won’t be as generous with Argentina,” he reiterated.
