Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, is aiming to conquer the social media world with Threads

(By Marcelo Maurizio) Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has expressed his excitement for the unexpected success of their latest social media venture, Threads. Despite facing some challenges in retaining users after its record-breaking launch, Zuckerberg remains committed to ensuring the platform's long-term success.

Threads, Meta's new social media application, quickly attracted 100 million users, though it experienced a slight decline in momentum in recent weeks. Nevertheless, META appears to be in control, with positive announcements, preventing Elon Musk, CEO and owner of Twitter and Tesla, from celebrating just yet.

During a recent call with analysts to discuss Meta's second-quarter financial results, Zuckerberg provided a comprehensive assessment of Threads and revealed their long-term plans to make Twitter yield to Meta's social media presence. "We have a lot of work to do," acknowledged Zuckerberg. He emphasized the need to create and experiment with user-friendly features, even if these moves may not always be immediately embraced by the audience.

Surprisingly, both Meta and Twitter employees are impressed by the rapid growth of Threads. Zuckerberg highlighted the need to perfect the user experience to ensure ongoing engagement, stating: "We believe we are approaching a good point with Threads. There are still many basic functionalities to develop, but once we feel satisfied, we'll fuel its growth."

Zuckerberg added that monetization will be a concern once Threads reaches a significant user base of hundreds of millions of people. This cautious approach contrasts with Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter last year for $44 billion and implemented significant changes that led some users to seek real-time online discussion alternatives.

Seeing the opportunity created by user dissatisfaction with Twitter, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, swiftly initiated another of its famous cloning attempts. Threads was developed in less than six months by a team of just 15 engineers. One week after its launch, the application surpassed 100 million users, setting a record for a social media platform.

While recent indicators suggest a slight decline in Threads' user engagement, Meta plans to launch numerous updates in the coming months and years. For example, this week, the platform launched its content feed for followed individuals.

Regarding Meta's track record in developing independent applications beyond its original Facebook service and acquisitions, Zuckerberg acknowledged that Musk's intervention with Twitter presented an unexpected and incredible opportunity for Meta. "We are focused on seizing this incredible opportunity," said the CEO, noting that no social debate application has yet reached one billion users. "It's incredible that we have the chance to work on this. I'm optimistic about where we are, but there is still a long way to go."

As Meta continues its quest to dominate social media, the competition between Meta's Threads and Elon Musk's Twitter promises to be a captivating and transformative battle in the digital landscape.
