Colombia's participation in the Copa América was marked by off-field incidents, including a scuffle between Colombian and Uruguayan fans, as well as players from the Uruguayan national team, following Colombia's 1-0 victory over Uruguay in the semifinals.

The president of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramón Jesurún, was arrested in Miami (United States) during an incident that occurred on Sunday at the Copa América final, according to a police report issued on Monday (July 15, 2024). According to a Miami-Dade County police report, Jesurún was arrested on charges of "assault on an officer/employee."

On Sunday night, the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami experienced moments of chaos at the entrances for the Copa América final, where Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 with a goal in extra time by Lautaro Martínez. After the match, 71-year-old Ramón Jesurún was heading to the field with his son and other relatives for the award ceremony, but security personnel prevented their access, as reported by the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo.

The arrest stemmed from an incident at the stadium where the Copa América final between Argentina and Colombia took place on Sunday. Throughout the day, there were 27 arrests and 55 ejections, according to the police.

How the crime unfolded: The leader's son, Ramón Jamil, got into an altercation with a stadium security member, prompting Jesurún to intervene, resulting in the arrest of both.

In addition to this incident, Jesurún is facing legal proceedings in Colombia, where a commercial court imposed a fine of approximately $80,000 on him for participating in a scheme involving the diversion and resale of tickets for Colombian national team matches in the qualification for the 2018 World Cup.
