Messi launches the “Messi Cup” in Miami: An elite youth tournament with invited Argentine and European clubs

(By Infonegocios Miami — Ortega ) Miami, FL — Lionel Messi has officially unveiled the “Messi Cup,” an international youth tournament set to become a landmark on the global development calendar. The event, organized by 525 Rosario—the production company founded by the Argentine icon—will be held in December at Inter Miami CF’s facilities.

The present and future of football are in Miami. This December, the event will bring together eight world-class U-16 clubs at Inter Miami’s campus.

From Argentina, River Plate and Newell’s Old Boys will take part.

Messi will lend his patronage to an international U-16 competition.

The eight U-16 participants

 

  • River Plate (Argentina)

  • Newell’s Old Boys (Argentina)

  • Inter Miami CF (USA)

  • FC Barcelona (Spain)

  • Atlético de Madrid (Spain)

  • Manchester City (England)

  • Chelsea FC (England)

  • Inter Milan (Italy)

 

Competition format

 

  • Group stage: 2 groups of 4 (round-robin)

  • Total matches: 18 over 6 days

  • Venues: Chase Stadium and the Florida Blue Training Center

  • Playoffs: Semifinals, third-place match, and final

  • Final: Chase Stadium



More than football

The event will feature a cultural and business dimension:

 

  • Industry summit at Faena Forum (sports, cultural, and business leaders)

  • Summit celebration at Pao by Paul Qui

  • Complementary community activities

 

 

Rosario precedent

A similar tournament took place in Rosario (Argentina) in 2024, where Thiago Messi represented Inter Miami alongside Newell’s, Peñarol, Montevideo City Torque, Universitario, Colón, and Estudiantes de Río Cuarto.

The vision

According to the organizers, the Messi Cup aims to be “a catalyst where talent becomes legacy, where culture drives innovation, and where a global community comes together around the new era of football.”

The tournament positions Miami as the epicenter of international youth football development, cementing Messi’s legacy beyond his playing career.
