All Referees Already Called Up for the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™

This continental tournament, which brings together the nations of South America in an exciting competition, will take a significant step towards gender equity by including, for the first time in its history, the participation of female referees in its matches.

The call-up highlights the presence of outstanding female referees who join the team of officials to ensure justice on the field. For the first time, women such as Edina Alves from Brazil, Maria Penso from the United States, and other brilliant professionals will be part of the panel of referees and assistants, thus demonstrating CONMEBOL's commitment to inclusion and diversity.

  • Strategic Exchange between Confederations

This milestone also marks a strategic agreement between CONMEBOL and UEFA, which has allowed referees from both confederations to participate in the Copa América. Additionally, Concacaf joins the event as a special guest, providing its own group of referees to enrich the competition with their experience and knowledge.

Since 2016, CONMEBOL has been actively working on promoting gender equity in football, both on and off the field. The called-up referees will gather in Dallas, United States, from June 13 to 17, 2024, to participate in a seminar prior to the start of the tournament. During this event, they will focus on strengthening their technical skills, working on their physical condition, and engaging in various training activities both on the field and in the VAR booths.

The South American Football Confederation, through its Referees Commission, has announced the list of called-up referees for the CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™, breaking down main referees, assistant referees, and VAR referees.

For the first time in history, the male CONMEBOL Copa América 2024™ will feature the presence of female referees. They are: Edina Alves – BRA (Referee); Neuza Back – BRA (Assistant); Mary Blanco – COL (Assistant); and Migdalia Rodríguez – VEN (Assistant), representing CONMEBOL. Meanwhile, Maria Penso – USA (Referee); Brooke Mayo – USA (Assistant); Kathryn Nesbitt – USA (Assistant); and Tatiana Guzmán - NIC (VAR), representing Concacaf.
