Elon Musk supports Geoffrey Hinton's (Google) resignation, known as the "godfather of AI," but also focuses on his own AI

(By Dino Dal Molin) Elon Musk has expressed agreement with comments made by Geoffrey Hinton, known as the "godfather of AI," who has voiced concerns about the potential risks of advanced artificial intelligence. Hinton, who previously worked at Google, has spoken about his concerns regarding the impact that future versions of this technology could have on humanity, including the proliferation of fake information.

Hinton resigned from Google to be able to warn about the risks of AI without worrying about affecting his colleagues, and stated that the company has acted responsibly in this regard.

Musk, who has been warning about the potential dangers of AI for years, signed a letter calling for a 6-month pause in the development of this technology to better understand it.

Despite this, Musk is also involved in a generative AI project, which has generated some criticism.

Musk has a history with ChatGPT. He co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman and other tech leaders. He stepped away from the company in 2018 and has become critical of it this year after OpenAI started the current trend of generative AI.

He has said that OpenAI has become "a closed-code, profit-maximizing company effectively controlled by Microsoft."

Elon Musk's relationship with artificial intelligence is not new. About eight years ago, the magnate co-founded OpenAI, a company that has gained great popularity in recent months thanks to its GPT-4 technology. However, Musk decided to separate himself from the company in 2018 after losing a power struggle with its current CEO, Sam Altman.

This business decision came after Musk, along with other prominent figures in the tech world, signed a public letter calling for a pause in the development and training of the most advanced generative artificial intelligence. The letter urged all AI labs to immediately halt training of more powerful systems than GPT-4 for at least six months, warning that these systems are coming to compete with humans in general tasks.

Recently, Alphabet launched its AI chatbot, which has raised concerns among some employees of the company. Representatives of Musk have not commented on this issue.
