Elections in Venezuela 2024: Clear Path Strategies grants Edmundo González a 26-point lead over Maduro

(By Taylor and Maurizio) The elections in Venezuela on July 28 have raised expectations for real change after 25 years. Chavismo, led by President Nicolás Maduro, faces a delicate situation due to accumulated wear and tear, as reflected in most polls. Meanwhile, the opposition, led by Edmundo González Urrutia, aims to capitalize on the climate of change prevailing in the country.

The U.S. consultancy Clear Path Strategies revealed a survey that gives the opposition candidate a 26-point advantage over Maduro. This poll shows that the intention to vote for the opposition's unitary candidate stands at 56%, while Nicolás Maduro accumulates 33%.

González Urrutia demonstrates dominance across all demographic groups, including age, gender, city size, military, social class, and religion. He even secures 63% of the evangelical vote, a religious group that had previously been linked to Maduro.

Tension and Expectations in the Electoral Environment

The international community is working for the involved parties to sign an agreement committing to accept the election results. However, Venezuela is in an atmosphere of maximum tension. Jorge Rodríguez, considered the number two in Chavismo, is confident of achieving victory and acknowledging the results. On the other hand, María Corina Machado, a prominent figure in the opposition, expresses openness to a "peaceful transition."

The Foreign Press Association accredited in Venezuela (Apex) has issued a statement in response to attacks received from the government, emphasizing that their work focuses on informing impartially, without getting involved in political debates.

Disenchantment and Voter Change in Venezuela

In the last decade, Chavismo has experienced a significant loss of votes. Corruption and the enrichment of leaders contrasted with the impoverishment of the population have generated deep disillusionment among voters.

Calls for Transparency and Respect in the Electoral Process

The Government of Peru has demanded the cessation of threats, harassment, repression, and arbitrary detentions in Venezuela, urging authorities to ensure a transparent electoral process respectful of human rights. The Venezuelan Electoral Observatory (OEV) has called for condemning any discourse that incites violence during the electoral campaign, promoting constructive language oriented towards respect and unity.

In summary, the elections in Venezuela in 2024 are presented as a crucial moment for the country, with a clear shift in electoral preferences and a palpable atmosphere of expectation and tension on the national political stage. Despite there being 10 candidates for the presidency of Venezuela, the presidential race boils down to that of dictator Maduro and González Urrutia: Who will win?
